My fave man and I recently spent a weekend in beautiful Taranaki region. It was the first time either of us have been to this area, and what a treat it was! It seems that you can see Mount Taranaki (Mt Egmont) from just about anywhere in the region (assuming it isn’t hidden by clouds, which seemed to happen periodically throughout the day!).

The mountain is beautiful, I loved how the plants changed as we (slowly) climbed in altitude. From the rainforest into the highland tussock, across rockfalls and below lavaflows, with clear views out to Mount Ruapehu and Tongariro. One day we will go back and do the summit track, when there are longer daylight hours and we have a bit more fitness on our side!

We stayed in a gorgeous AirB&B owned by a lovely, friendly couple with a gorgeous blue heeler dog – we have decided one day we will have our own! The accommodation was in the old Kaponga police house out the back of their garden. It was so cosy, warm and hyggelig (new word, tick). They gave us homemade jam and marmalade, and invited us to help ourselves to their fruit trees. It was just the perfect spot to come back to, curl up with a cuppa and watch a movie after a day of adventuring. We watched Jurassic Park on tv, with ads, it felt like the old days!
